Georgia scored a touchdown with ten seconds to go to take a 3-point lead against Tennessee and somehow lost the game.
The craziness started when Georgia quarterback Jacob Eason caught the Tennessee secondary napping when he hit true freshman Riley Ridley with a 47-yard touchdown pass in the final seconds.
You can actually see the defensive back slow down on the play, apparently thinking that Eason couldn’t throw the ball deep.
Tennessee fans were stunned.
Georgia fans were getting ready to charge the field.
But wait. There was a 15-yard unsportsmanlike penalty on Georgia after the touchdown.
One of the players had taken off their helmet in the field of play.
That moved the kickoff back 15 yards. That, combined with a nice return by the Vols, and they had the ball on Georgia’s side of the field for one final play.
Sure enough, that was all Tennessee needed.
Tennessee quarterback Joshua Dobbs heaved his own Hail Mary and Jauan Jennings leaped and caught the ball in the end zone for the win.
Here is the replay. Georgia just never got up to knock down the ball.
Tennessee wins 34-31!
Now it was the Georgia fans’ turn to be stunned.
Tennessee head coach Butch Jones went from pure elation to being completely stunned.
